預防失智症惡化！動物、寵物型機器人療法效果可期

利用動物對人類的影響，作為治療和看護的手法，稱為「動物輔助治療」。使用這種方法的用意，在於維持和提升健康，預防健康狀況惡化。
有飼養過動物的患者大多喜歡這種療法，能夠期待治療效果。但患有重度失智或妄想症的患者，以及無法認得動物的患者，並不適用這種療法。
利用機器人豐富的動作療癒患者
不方便安排動物，或者擔心傳染病的情況下，使用「寵物型機器人」也是個辦法。
2005年，我們從老人看護設施找來5位老年人（5位認知機能良好的女性）讓她們每周撫觸四次寵物型機器人（每次約1小時，用SONY製的AIBO）， 總計撫觸20次。
她們說那些寵物機器人的舉止很可愛，而且會乖乖聽話，玩起來很開心。這也代表寵物型機器人能夠促進老年人積極對話，刺激他們的創造力，在生活上帶來良好的影響。再者，許多研究數據也顯示，這麼做有減輕緊張狀態和壓力的效果。
有些老年人家中導入寵物型機器人，跟孫子對話的機會也增加了，老人家也非常高興。對於還認得機器人美國 Grow'n up 溜滑梯 / 搖椅的老年失智症患者，這種療法很有效，尤其喜歡機器人和寵物的患者，效果更值得期待。
